This week on Captain’s Corner reserves skipper Glen Percival chats about his season, how he believes the team can finish strong this season and next opponents Styal.

First of all we had to ask about how the captaincy came about, and how he felt when given the armband following Ian Worley’s departure. “’I had been captain the previous two season so was ready to take back on the role if Webber believed I was the man for it”. He was extremely proud to be chosen to captain the side, and believed it gave him a confidence boost. “Ye definitely I was proud, it’s a big role and I think you’ve got to be confident when giving out the right advice on and off the pitch to the other lads”.

Manager Lee Webster was quoted last week as saying he believed his team could finish unbeaten if the performance levels are higher enough. He also said he believes his Greenalls side are so good they could be a best 11 team assembled from the other teams in the division. Percival agrees with his manager;” I agree with Webber we’ve got a good bunch of lads here for the reserves and everyone puts a shift in from the keeper through to the strikers. We’ve only been beaten three times this season which says it all, and I’d like to think that we could go from now till the end of the season unbeaten and take this league title”.

Next up for the Greens are Styal Reserves, a team doing well in the Reserves league. The skipper is wary of the credentials of Saturday’s visitors. “They are up there with us in 4th position and they won’t be pushovers, I think it will be a close game and we’ve got to be on top of our game Saturday if we want to take the win”.

We wrapped things up by asking what Percival believed had been the moment of the season so far, not only for the team but for him as an individual. “Being handed the captaincy when the great Worley left us for down under would be my personal moment. As for the team, the fight back when we were down 3-0 at half time to Pilkington away and pulled the game back in the second half to 3-3. Those type of games wins you the leagues”.
