Greenalls PSO winger Lee Deakin will be out for at least a month after breaking a metatarsal on Tuesday night.
The Greenalls man has bagged an impressive 11 goals from 13 appearances this term, and is the club’s top scorer and fourth overall in the league standings.
Deakin will now miss out on the next stage of Greenalls Guardian Cup pursuit, which resumes on Saturday at home to Moore United as they bid to reach the quarter finals.
Greenalls will be desperately disappointed with the injury to one of their first team regulars as the winger looks set to miss what will be a busy festive period.
First team manager Dave Bush is trying to remain positive in light of the wide man’s injury. Bush explained that although it is a bitter blow to lose a key player over a busy stage of the season, Greenalls are lucky that the squad has good depth in terms of quality.
“It gives the others a chance to step up and stake their claim, we’re lucky to have lots of players at the club who can do that”.
Deakin suffered the injury playing in a midweek seven-a-side team in Padgate, and his manager admitted that these kind of incidents can happen in this level of football.
The cup game on Saturday now becomes a great opportunity for someone to come in and stake their claim for a regular starting spot in Bush’s side.
